Jason Chen's Blog

Hello to all seeing my blog today. My name is Jason Chen and I am 18. I am a freshman undergraduate student at UCLA pursuing in a major in Music Performance, Violin and a Minor in Data Science Engineering

I started playing violin at the age of 8 and currently study with Ji Young An. I am the concertmaster of the Glendale Youth Orchestra and have been a part of the Los Angeles Youth Orchestra and the Colburn Sinfonietta in the past. Also an avid chamber musician, I have been part of Junior Chamber Music for the past five years, working closely with mentors like Christopher O’Riley, Radim Sedmidubsky, Sean Lee, Niv Ashkenazi, Junko Ueno Garrett, Tomasz Golka, and David Garrett.

Outside of music, I am also passionate about computer science and as a senior in high school, I want to pursue both violin and computer science in college. I am a code instructor at Code Ninjas by teaching kids coding concepts on a variety of platforms based on their level and guide them through creative thinking and problem solving. I assign assignments to my students and track their progress of their assignments. I am also a class leader at the Code for Kids club at a local high school and teach Scratch and Python to elementary school students from the Code.org platform. I plan on participating in orchestras as well as taking private violin lessons in addition to taking computer science and engineering courses. I also have a deep love and passion for community service. I regularly host classical music concerts at senior homes throughout my community and see the smiles music can put on people's faces. Thus, in the future, I definitely want to continue bringing people together through the power of music and sharing my knowledge about computer science to kids to continue my path of becoming a computer science mentor..
